We want our schools to be the academically best performing schools in their area when socio-economic or other relevant differences are adjusted for. The strategy for achieving this in the KED program is the emphasis on goals and continuous assessments. In the KED program this process is called “grades management," meaning that the student´s final grades and exams should not be considered just as a final demonstration of what has been learned. It is a diagnosis and the basis for designing the strategy for how to reach the goals. This is not only a task for the student; it is a challenge for all staff and the entire school. The process consists of setting goals that are clear, challenging and achievable and then assessing success continuously in order to see whether the performance is in line with the goals.Where ever the KED program has been in use long enough to provide data, our schools have typically outperformed their peers (all of the following academic performance data are from Sweden):

Final grades for Kunskapsskolan's students in the final year of secondary schools (grade 9) were the best ever, which corresponds to an average in all subjects of Approved with merits (the second highest grade in the national Swedish system). This confirms Kunskapsskolans position among the academically best performing schools in Sweden.

13 of 20 Kunskapsskolan schools are the best performing schools in their districts. And 18 of the 20 schools are best or second-best in their districts. This is before adjustments for socio-economic differences. All Kunskapsskolan schools are all inclusive schools open for all students and without tuition fees.

In 2010, the number of students in Kunskapsskolan who acheived the grades Approved or higher in all their subjects, rose for the fourth consecutive year to 88%. The comparable national average for all schools is 76%

In 2010 the share of Kunskapsskolan students achieving the highest grades in the national Swedish grading system was 72% in English, 45% in Math and 68% in Swedish. All outcomes are significantly higher than the national average.

SALSA is the name of the formula used by the Swedish National Agency for Schools to adjust academic performance of schools for socio-economic differences. 18 of 20 Kunskapsskolan Schools have a positive SALSA index, meaning that they are performing better than what could be expected given their socio-economic composition of students.
